Office of Board Governance

The Office of Board Governance at Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) has three main functions: Board Services, Clerk and Information Services, and Legislative Advocacy Services. 

The Office of Board Governance (OBG) coordinates among the Milwaukee Board of School Directors, the Office of Accountability and Efficiency, and the Office of the Superintendent to assist with establishing district goals, priorities, rules, and policies. OBG supports the Board in effectively and efficiently governing the district by providing the most independent information available.

Board Services

  • Promoting constituent relations

  • Preparing communications for the Board and the public

  • Obtaining public input on Board initiatives and activities
  • Investigating and assisting in the resolution of constituent concerns
  • Providing Board directors and the public with information
  • Coordinating Beyond the Boardroom events
  • Facilitating Board development and training
     

Clerk and Information Services

  • Preparing meeting notices and agendas for Board and committee meetings 
  • Maintaining and publishing records of the Board's actions
  • Serving as the Board's secretary, clerk, and parliamentarian
  • Responding to information and records requests
  • Maintaining the Board's web presence
  • Coordinating charter school concept reviews and assisting in the negotiations process for charter school contracts
     

Legislative Advocacy Services

2025–26 Legislative Agenda

  • Lobbying and advocating for all items included in the Board’s Legislative Agenda
  • Serving as a liaison between organizations that allow the Board to operate at a legislative level 
  • Maintaining relationships with other elected local, state, and federal elected officials
  • Providing updates to the Board and Senior Team on legislative matters affecting the district
