Office of Family, Community, and Partnership

The Office of Family, Community, and Partnership was created in 2025 to reorganize existing Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) departments and resources to better support the district’s families.

We create stronger partnerships with Milwaukee’s business, philanthropic, and civic communities and families for the benefit of Milwaukee’s children. We also collaborate with the Milwaukee Public Schools Foundation, the independent, nonprofit entity whose fundraising helps support the district and its students.

Department of Recreation

Milwaukee Recreation serves to strengthen and extend the bond between public education and the community. Founded in 1911 by legislation that was reportedly the first of its kind to assign a local public school system the responsibility for conducting recreation programs, Milwaukee Recreation has maintained a leadership position throughout its history. Multiple use of public school facilities for community services, especially in the evenings, has earned Milwaukee Recreation the distinction of being recognized nationally as the "City of the Lighted Schoolhouse."

Milwaukee Recreation enriches the lives of Milwaukee's youth, adults, and families through many innovative programs. These programs are designed to improve the academic achievement of all students during non-school hours, strengthen families, reduce crime in the neighborhoods, and enhance the well-being of all residents.

We strive to enrich and strengthen the community by promoting healthy lifestyles, personal development, and fun through memorable recreational and educational experiences for people of all ages and abilities.

Department of Strategic Partnerships and Customer Service

Families play an essential role in student success, and our team supports parent coordinators and provides resources to enhance collaboration between schools and families. We focus on creating welcoming environments, connecting schools to communities, and empowering families with tools and leadership opportunities. Additionally, we offer professional development, technical assistance, and transparent communication to ensure consistency across schools.

The District Advisory Council gives families a voice in Title I programs, and the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council amplifies student perspectives in district decision-making. We work with businesses and community organizations to provide resources, volunteer services, and professional development opportunities. MPS Welcome Centers offer in-person assistance with enrollment, dispute resolution, and family support. Our alumni programs aim to foster lifelong connections.
