Title IV, Part A: Student Support and Academic Enrichment (SSAE) Grant

Title IV, Part A is a flexible block grant that was enacted in 2017–18 and authorizes activities in three broad areas.

Funding for this grant is based on the Title II funding formula and is meant to supplement, not supplant, current initiatives. Districts have significant flexibility in using funds to support the following priority areas:

  • Access to a well-rounded education
  • Improvement of school conditions for learning to ensure safe and healthy students
  • Effective use of technology to improve academic achievement and digital literacy

A local education agency that receives Title IV, Part A funds has the responsibility to provide equitable services to eligible private school children and educators, consistent with the number of eligible children in the areas served by the agency (ESEA section 8501(b)(1)).
