Your Career Roadmap: From Para to Teacher 

The GYO program allows you to work 15–30 hours per week while attending college in the Milwaukee area. You will gain hands-on experience supporting student learning side-by-side with expert classroom teachers.

Step 1: Graduate from an MPS high school. 
Step 2: Work as a GYO paraprofessional while earning your degree. 
Step 3: Earn your bachelor's degree and apply for a teaching career with MPS. 

Starting Pay

$20.39 per hour

Universal Program Benefits (15–29 Hours/Week) 

  • Real-world, on-the-job experience in the field of education

  • Tuition Reimbursement: Up to $3,000 per fiscal year

Requirements 

  • Age: 18+ 
  • Education: High school diploma 
  • College Enrollment: Current or prospective student (Fall 2026/Spring 2027) 
  • Testing: Passing score on the Para Pro Assessment for basic skills in math, reading, and writing
