Classes set for the MPS 2026 Summer Academy. Register starting February 16!
  • Event

Registration opens Monday, February 16, for Summer Academy, the Milwaukee Public Schools program of classes and adventures that provide enrichment and inspire learning for students in kindergarten through grade 12.

Summer Academy will be weekdays from July 6 through 30 at select schools around the city. Registration is open until June 1, but enrolling early is advised — some seats fill quickly.

Summer Academy helps children retain skills from this school year so they can start strong in the fall. In Summer Academy, students can learn art, music, social studies, STEM, and more.

Some sites offer Extended School Year (ESY) for children with special education needs. Some sites also offer Montessori, bilingual, and English as a second language (ESL).

Students in K5 to grade 4 who have a personal reading plan (PRP) are strongly encouraged to attend Summer Academy to build their reading skills.

Summer Academy also supports students in grades 6 to 12 to help them catch up or get ahead with credit-earning classes and accelerated learning. Offerings vary by site.

Students can tap into their creativity or develop new skills in Summer Academy’s specialty courses. Here is a sampling of the dozens of courses offered:

  • Lifeguarding (ages 15 and older; students earn American Red Cross certification on completion)
  • Pass, Kick, and Score: Summer Soccer and Flag Football (grades 1 to 6)
  • Stories Come Alive: Reading and Creative Arts (grades 1 to 5)
  • Crochet Club for Kids (grades 4 to 6)
  • Advanced Band (grades 6 to 12)
  • Lifetime Sports: Cricket and Pickleball (grades 9 to 12)
  • Personal Finance (grades 9 to 12)
  • The Beat: Community Journalism and Media Lab (grades 9 to 12)

Breakfast and lunch are provided for students attending Summer Academy, which runs from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Afternoon childcare and recreation programs are available through Milwaukee Recreation. More information is available by calling Rec at (414) 475-8180.

Summer Academy is free for city of Milwaukee residents. Non-residents can enroll for a fee.
