MPS Bilingual Program Enrollment Fair is Saturday, May 30
  • Community Story

Families can explore bilingual education for their children at the MPS Bilingual Program Enrollment Fair. In the Bilingual Program, Milwaukee Public Schools students learn their subjects in English and Spanish, building their skills in one while preserving their heritage in the other.

The fair will be Saturday, May 30, at Longfellow School, 1021 S. 21st St. School staff will be at the fair to answer families’ questions from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

“We want families to know about the many advantages of having their children attend Milwaukee Public Schools, and the resources available to them at MPS,” said Sara Cruz, principal of La Escuela Fratney. Her school will be one of more than a dozen MPS schools represented at the fair.

One advantage is that students in the Bilingual Program can earn their Wisconsin Seal of Biliteracy for being proficient in English and one or more other languages. Being bilingual can be a building block for students’ future success.

Milwaukee Public Schools also has resources for special education, before- and after-school care, and free breakfast and lunch. MPS emphasizes literacy, and schools offer classes in art, music, and physical education, along with extracurricular activities.
