MPS’s 2026 Hispanic Heritage Month celebration will focus on innovators
  • Community Story

Every year during Hispanic Heritage Month, Milwaukee Public Schools celebrates the contributions of Hispanic and Latino people and cultures. This year, the theme of MPS’s celebration is “Innovación con Raíces Hispanas,” or “Innovation with Hispanic Roots.”

Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15 through October 15. MPS’s celebration will take place on Saturday, October 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Bradley Technology and Trade School, 700 S. 4th St. The event is free and open to the public.

For the event, schools are selecting a Spanish-speaking country to represent. Students of all ages will showcase the achievements and contributions of Hispanic innovators, leaders, artists, educators, scientists, and entrepreneurs from their school’s chosen country, through displays they have created based on their research.

Hispanic Heritage Month will be observed in other ways throughout MPS, as well.

For example, schools are invited to integrate this year’s theme surrounding innovation with Hispanic roots into their studies. The Office of Academics is providing schools with suggested instruction and optional activities for all ages in the areas of literacy, biliteracy, math, science, art, music, physical education, and social studies.
