MPS high school juniors can start training for a career now! We Energies is looking for students to train as a line mechanic intern or an apprentice gas technician or design engineer. Get paid while still in high school! Please note that this process is available only to MPS students.
Non-MPS students should check with their school to find out if We Energies will visit their school.

Learn about Exciting Careers!
- Line Mechanic Intern
Maintain power lines and climb electrical poles. Learn about electric distribution, basic electric theory, safety, and materials and operations. - Gas Technician Youth Apprentice
Maintain equipment, repair leaks, and troubleshoot problems with natural gas lines. Understand how natural gas is used in homes and businesses. - Design Engineer Youth Apprentice
Work 900 paid hours and learn electrical planning, natural gas design, and engineering concepts. Design construction prints and see them implemented on job sites. Must be a high school junior.
How to Apply
High school juniors—be sure to complete these two steps in order:
- Complete this We Energies internship application by November 6, 2026
- Attend a working interview/tryout
Visit your College and Career Center to get a permission slip and more information. On these days, students will try out for positions, learn more about the program, and see We Energies staff in these roles. - Students applying for Line Mechanic and Gas Technician will need to attend a We Energies Demo Day (dates vary by school).
- Students applying for Design Engineer Youth Apprentice should attend the Careers in Energy Day on October 19 or 30.
The final deadline to apply for all programs is November 6, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.
