Teaching and Learning

At Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS), we show students the importance of being stewards of the environment.

Teaching with a sustainability lens fosters agency, empowerment, and curiosity. It encourages students to see interconnected systems, to see themselves in those systems, and to identify the leverage points of change.

Wisconsin Climate Education Hub

The Wisconsin Climate Education Hub is a statewide hub that was created with support from MPS and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) to empower educators with high-quality teaching and learning resources. This site offers access to teacher-approved and scientist-reviewed instructional materials that support environmental education requirements. This includes ready-to-teach lesson plans, more than 2,900 teacher resources, and a "News for Students" section filled with articles about current events.

Curriculum Resources

MPS elementary school libraries now have a Climate Education Collection for students and teachers to share stories of hope for the Earth and the people and animals who live here. More than 44 books have been placed into 104 K–5 libraries across the district, in addition to a digital library resource that includes over 80 titles. Middle-level climate education books, as well as titles available in Spanish, are available for educators to check out from our climate education coach.
