College Access and Career Development

Students in Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) achieve success through a variety of college access and career readiness programs at specific schools.  
 

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee: Career Development 

Young people set goals, develop workforce-ready skills, and explore a variety of industries and work environments through Boys & Girls Clubs Career Development programming. Activities include worksite tours, guest speakers, hands-on experiences, and lessons on financial planning and career planning. Together, these BGC Career Development programs teach skills and provide training for a successful job search.  
 

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee: Grad Plus  

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee’s Graduation Plus (Grad Plus) program uses a relationship-centered approach to provide individualized support to every student. This program offers students mentorship and support as they work toward high school graduation and post-secondary education goals.  
 

College Possible Wisconsin  

College Possible provides college coaches to students in MPS high schools. The program supports student enrollment and graduation at two- and four-year colleges.  
 

First Nations Studies College Access Program  

The First Nations Studies College Access Program prepares Native American students to transition through high school and beyond. Students receive social and emotional support, enrichment, and guidance. Customized support includes tutoring, college tours, opportunities for career exploration, and more.   
 

Marquette University Educational Opportunity Program (MU EOP)  

The Marquette University Educational Opportunity Program (MU EOP) supports first-generation and low-income students from pre-college through graduate education. The MU EOP includes Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math and Science, Educational Talent Search, and College Bound Scholars.  
 

PEOPLE: Precollege Enrichment Opportunity Program for Learning at UW–Madison  

PEOPLE is the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s Precollege Enrichment Opportunity Program for Learning Excellence. It is designed to help students progress toward high school graduation and prepare for an enriching college experience. Beginning in ninth grade, accepted students are assigned a Precollege Advisor to assist them throughout their educational journey. Ninety-four percent of PEOPLE high school graduates enroll in higher education.   
 

TRIO & Pre-College at UW–Milwaukee  

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's TRIO & Pre-College Programs promote academic excellence in high school and support college access for first-generation, low-income, and other underrepresented students. Eligible MPS students who participate will receive access to educational resources, services, and opportunities, including tutoring, academic skill development, college visits, and residential experiences.   
 

Wisconsin GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs)  

The Wisconsin GEAR UP program aims to increase the number of low-income students who prepare for and succeed in postsecondary education. Students in grades six through twelve get access to one-on-one advising, guidance about college and career readiness, college visits, and more. The program also offers personalized mentoring that begins in senior year and continues through their first year of college. Eligible students can apply for the GEAR UP Scholarship to help make college possible.
