Youth Apprenticeships

Youth Apprenticeships allow high school juniors and seniors at Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) to gain real-world work experience in potential careers of interest.

MPS students, want to explore career options—and get paid?

If you participate in our Youth Apprenticeship (YA) program, you’ll split your time between school and a paid job (about 15 hours a week). You’ll earn both school credit and wages while working alongside industry professionals. With the guidance of an experienced mentor, you'll develop valuable skills that set you apart—whether you choose to enter the workforce right away or continue your education after high school.

Those who successfully complete their YA program earn an Occupational Skills Proficiency Certification, proving they have the skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience to succeed in their chosen career field. This certification is recognized across Wisconsin, giving YA graduates a competitive edge in the job market and beyond.
