Language Immersion Programs

Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) is home to award-winning language immersion specialty schools, which offer full immersion in French, German, and Spanish and partial immersion in Italian.

In a language immersion school, students learn core subjects in the target language. The goal is for students to become proficient in the second language while reaching a high level of academic achievement. Students develop proficiency in the second language by hearing and using it to learn all of their school subjects rather than by studying the language itself.

Language immersion schools typically require prior language experience before enrolling in older grades.
