Common Core State Standards

The curriculum in Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) is based on the national Common Core State Standards, which were developed with teachers, school administrators, and experts to prepare all children for college and the workforce.

More than 45 states, including Wisconsin, have adopted the Common Core State Standards. These standards set high academic expectations, eliminating the gap between what students have learned and mastered at high school graduation and what they must know to begin technical college/university and careers. The Common Core State Standards ensure our students are competitive with other students from around the state, the country, and the world. Under these standards, students master important concepts, use critical thinking skills to become true problem solvers, look for evidence as they read complex texts, and much more.

Standards-Based Report Cards

All MPS schools use Standards-Based Report Cards, which reinforce the high expectations for students in each key subject or “content area.” These report cards help educators, students, and families focus on standards throughout the year. They provide specific feedback on progress to the standards so that everyone can work together to set meaningful goals for improvement.
