Bilingual Students

The Lau Compliance Center at Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) supports the enrollment of students who qualify for a bilingual dual language program (Spanish speakers) or an English as a Second Language (ESL) program.

Staff members at the Lau Compliance Center work with families to enroll children who speak any home language other than English. The center provides the following:

Spanish eligibility testing for bilingual one-way and two-way programs
English proficiency assessment to determine eligibility for ESL services
Spanish-speaking staff to provide enrollment assistance
Language Line Services for families who speak other languages
Guidance requested by schools for students between the ages of five and 20
