Kindergarten Enrollment

Families can enroll their three-, four-, and five-year-old children in kindergarten with Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS).

For kindergarten enrollment, priority is given to the siblings of students who are currently attending a school or are already enrolled for the upcoming year.

Do you have a child turning three, four, or five by September 1?

It's easy to enroll them in kindergarten! 

  1. Visit our online registration portal.
  2. Choose a language (English or Spanish).
  3. Select "Start New Application."
  4. Complete the initial registration form. For "Registration Type," select "Kindergarten."

Applying during the Kindergarten Enrollment window gives you the best chance of being enrolled in your first-choice school. If you miss the window, you will still be able to enroll your child, but some schools may be filled.

Attend one of our enrollment fairs to:

  • Find schools and programs that are best for your child
  • Learn about transportation options
  • Hear about our before- and after-school care programs
  • Meet school leaders and teachers
  • Enjoy children’s activities, classroom demonstrations, and more
  • Hear more about MPS’s new way of teaching reading
  • Learn about MPS family resources
  • Find out about careers at MPS

Interpreters will be available at both fairs. Make sure to apply by March 2, 2026, for the best opportunity at your first-choice school.

Enrollment Assistance

While the enrollment application is available online, you can also complete it in person if you need assistance or access to technology. In-person applications can be done during the Kindergarten Enrollment Fair or any time at MPS Central Services. Please note that enrolling in person does not improve your chances of getting into your first-choice school.
