District Multilingual Multicultural Advisory Committee
The District Multilingual Multicultural Advisory Committee brings together parents, teachers, administrators, school staff, and community members to advise, promote, and build the capacity of multilingual/multicultural programming in Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS).
DMMAC is an advisory committee with a function defined by the State of Wisconsin. The purpose of this committee is to provide parents and educators of English learner (EL) students with the opportunity to advise the Milwaukee Board of School Directors. They're able to share their views about EL programs and ensure that EL programming is planned, operated, and evaluated with their involvement and consultation.
DMMAC Members
The committee is composed of:
-
Parents of ELs enrolled in a bilingual and/or English as a Second Language (ESL) program
- Bilingual educators—teachers, paraprofessionals, and counselors
While the state's definition is focused purely on English learners in a bilingual program, MPS also includes a limited number of representatives from the ESL stand-alone program and language immersion program.

DMMAC Responsibilities
District administration shares information about each program with committee members. Together, the group learns about strengths and challenges and focuses on continuous improvement. Additionally, the committee assists the Milwaukee Board of School Directors in informing educators and parents about EL programming options.
