Meal Program and Menus

At Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS), every student can receive a high-quality, nutritious breakfast and lunch for free, regardless of income.

We know that well-fed students are better prepared to learn, which is why we provide our students with healthy, local, and fresh food.
Fresh fruit on a lunch tray: oranges, pears and apples
A fresh green salad in a bowl with salad dressing and plastic utensils
A delicious school lunch of chili, baked beans, a muffin, chocolate milk and an orange
Pints of 1% milk from Prairie Farms

For the 2025–26 school year, we updated our menu offerings to provide students with more options, so now there are multiple lunch entrées to choose from every day. Discover what we’re serving this month and view carb counts for each meal and food item.

Families: Join Us for a Meal

Parents, guardians, and other family members are welcome to join students at breakfast or lunch.

All visitors—including siblings not yet enrolled in school—must pay the cost of a meal, $3.00 for breakfast or $5.00 for lunch. Please call your child’s school about mealtimes so you can plan a school breakfast or lunch date with your child.

MPS employees are encouraged to participate in breakfast and lunch. Please see the School Kitchen Manager to set up your My Payments Plus account to pay for meal. Employee Meal prices are $3.00 for breakfast or $5.00 for lunch.

Local Food Sources

We strive to demonstrate a way of eating that promotes well-being for the individual, our communities, and the earth.

  • We choose vendors that produce food within a 250-mile radius of MPS, and we are working to expand farm-to-school options for students and staff.
  • We provide a variety of locally produced milk, ice cream, hot dog buns, hamburger buns, dinner rolls, and breadsticks. Our apple slices and many frozen vegetables are grown right here in Wisconsin!
  • We support school gardens.
  • We participated in the USDA Pilot Project for Procurement of Unprocessed Fruits and Vegetables. This project supported our farm-to-school efforts by allowing us to have a geographic preference in procurement.
