Pregnant and Parenting Youth Program (PPYP)
At Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS), our Pregnant and Parenting Youth Program (PPYP) improves the educational, wellness, and social-emotional outcomes for school-age parents—young fathers and mothers—and their children.
If you're a teen parent, you’re learning how to be a responsible adult. You also want what’s best for your baby. Believe in yourself and build a better future for you and your baby through PPYP. You'll learn how to develop and maintain healthy habits, stay on track to graduate, attend job training or college, and start a career.
Program Services
PPYP has a caring team dedicated to helping MPS students who are navigating pregnancy, parenthood, and school. This team includes registered nurses, school social workers, school counselors, paraprofessional assistants, a program manager, and a program supervisor.
When you join PPYP, our team listens to you. A case management approach helps identify your needs and match you to support services:
-
Registered nurses guide you through prenatal care and delivery, infant and child care, child development, reproductive health, and nutrition for you and your baby. Our nursing services ensure that you and your child are healthy.
- Academic support helps you stay on track to graduate. We offer home/hospital instruction if a medical need (maternity leave, high-risk pregnancy, etc.) prevents you from attending school.
- Staff assess your needs, help you set goals, track your progress, and connect you to community resources as new needs arise.
- Counseling services help you cope with stress, improve your well-being, and support you in developing healthy relationships. Counselors also provide college and career planning so you can build a pathway to support your family.
